Magnesium vs Aluminum weights
I have had some of my students beadblasting the wheels off a few mules, and when I picked up both types, I noticed the aluminum rim is heavier than the magnesium rim. I took both home and weighed them and found the aluminum rim is about 7 lbs, and the mag is about 5 1/2 lbs. Considering that the first model mules are magnesium, and only the A5 is aluminum, is there much weight difference between models?

Re: Magnesium vs Aluminum weights
None of the TM's that I have looked through show anything other than the 970 lbs operating weight specification. I'm sure there is a difference in the weight but don't know if it's enough to change the specs. All the data plates that I have ever seen list the 970 lbs, too.

Re: Magnesium vs Aluminum weights
My A4 weighs in at 890lbs. That's with 1/2 tank of fuel, battery and starter. The exact difference in weight between aluminum and magnesium would depend on the specific alloys being compared but magnesium is approximately 30% lighter than aluminum.
