steering column assembly repair/restore

Post by nw5s » Sun Jun 15, 2014 10:00 am

Howdy! Time to repair/restore my A5 steering column. Steering wheel came off way too easy. Turns out many of the threads on the steering wheel shaft were stripped. Got the steering wheel off and found incomplete bearing with a piece of PVC stuck in it... apparently being used as the bearing. See attached photo. I have a replacement bearing from Mr. Emery, but it seems rather dry. Should I lube the bearing before install or leave it as is? Thanks!

Bruce

The OEM Steering Column Bearings were lubricated with Lubriplate. Lubriplate 630 AA is ideal for the job. Just put a dab on your finger and rub a thin coat over the balls. The latest Jeep number for the Steering Column Bearing is 801422. The M-274 usesthe same bearing as Jeep.
