Hi Dave
I am sure very fine sand at low pressures as you suggest would work OK.
The secret is to not get too wild with it, stand away and go easy. I would not think having a slightly rough finish to be a big deal;
The primer and paint will have better adhesion vs a smooth surface. Paint should be applied fairly heavy anyhow to stand up to the abuse the
deck surface will face.

Re: mule blasting
Thanks,
Good information. Good point, The deck takes abuse.
I'll let you know how it works out.
I've got the ideas, the parts, tools, it's the time that's the problem.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: mule blasting
For me also Dave.
My mule has been sitting neglected for the past two years!!!
I have all the parts, a rebuilt engine, just need the time to do it.
My job has me busy as well as my home renos when I do have time. Lucky for me, the last MV show there was a Mule present.
She was so enthralled with it suddenly I find myself under orders to get mine done...Actually it was inspiring so I am eager.

Re: mule blasting
Had mine soda blasted along with some M38 parts. Hope to post some pics sometime soon. I think its the only way to go. No damage to any rubber or the mules magnesium parts. M38 fenders and windshield frame looked like they just came out of the stampimg plant. He even blasted the M38 windshield to get rid of a bunch of sticky residue from old stickers and polished it like new.

Re: mule blasting
Engine is cleaned up and will have new seals soon. Still debating about how to strip the paint. I may have to check Into soda blasting. Was it expensive? I've sand blasted some small parts, but I don't want to get sand everywhere in the engine and all. Got to do some reassembly to move the Mule where I can blast the deck. Should be cranking it soon.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: mule blasting
Not cheap but he came to my house. It was around $500 for everything he did. After sand blasting everything will start to rust in a day or so. After soda blasting you can wait because the soda forms a film on the metal and acts like a preservative. Only drawback is you must was all surfaces with soap and water before painting it. Worked out good when I did it because it was hot and sunny. A quick wash down and everything dried quickly and no problems. The surface is not etched as bad as sand and looking for rust. Also... he blasted my motor in the mule, with new dust boots on axles and tires. He said old cracked rubber it will blow away, newer rubber it will just make it look newer. Said he blast old cars with the gauges still in the dash and it doesn't hurt them.
