Re: 6 wire switch
Fill me in?
I'm just guessing that the top switch (6 wire) handles the ignition on/start function.
What's the bottom switch handle? Lights?

Re: 6 wire switch
Bottom switch is momentary contact for starter, top switch provides power to the alternator, power to the starter switch and also provides a ground circut for the magneto. This is the standard Army contract mule electrical system.

Re: 6 wire switch
Wow!
Thanks Chuck,
I've never seen one before and had no idea they were that intense.
I'd thought about putting a box on the steering column but then voted it down.
Of course, over the year, as I lean forward with my hand, trying to find that dadburn start button and having a sore back, I may reconsider. LOL
Thx,
John

Re: 6 wire switch
That's the way the military did it. When we install an electrical package, we use a 10SI Delco 1-wire alternator with a low RPM cut-in regulator, and can use just a simple lawn tractor ignition switch.

Re: 6 wire switch
Might be a little late, Larry's post was 4 years ago. Saturn Surplus has the 6-wire switch listed again for $28.50. Might be a better deal than the $165.00 one on e-bay.

Thanks for the scematic Chuck. With that switch can you hook up (say lights) to the L lug so they won't stay on without the key on?

You can actually use it as the light switch, there's a key position for the lights, if I remember correctly.

Re: 6 wire switch
Chuck, i tried wiring the stayer switch and battery to test out. I couldn't get the starter to turn on. I have the negative of the battery to the ground of the starter motor. Could you post a pic of your wiring?
