MULE FOOT BASKET

Postby artharger@aol.com » Sun Aug 19, 2007 6:15 am

:?: In old photos; I noted several mules front foot basket bent down.

Q... I am having a dard time getting my leg's up and into the basket, (A bit handicap); what does everone think. (Field Modification) buy an extra front basket and try it?

Q... Don't look all that safe, but I think I could get in and off much better.

Q... Anyone seen this type setup?

Art,

Refering to a 1958 Willys sales brochure the early M274 shows a foot basket in both configurations (horizontal and tilted down). Not aware of any other models using the tilted basket.

UPDATE.

 Thanks for the input... Today at Dave's motor pool, I tryed to get on his mule and ride it around. Just to much to get my leg's up and over without a step. (That is correct, spent a lot of money on something I just can't get on.) It's not going to slow me down; when I lost my toes due to diabetes, lost my original kidneys, (on dialysis for 5 1/2 years, (Agent Orange ???? and 16 years at Cherry Pt. DRMO Enviroment disposal), before I was given a kidnesy from a veteran...well some days I was just a dead rock; unable to due anything. Getting on that mule is a can-do!
AND JOINING THIS FORUM WAS MY JUMP START... TKS.

I am going to a 40 ac field when does arrive to learn to ride this mule!

Art,

Many thanks to you for your service. I really hope you find a way to get up in that seat and RIDE!!!!

This is a great forum for information. I consider Chuck and Rod (Alabama boys) as Mule gurus. Proud to be in their neighborhood.

Good luck with your mule, Art, but be advised that if it's four-wheel-steer, it can turn over quickly in hard turns and/or at high speed. Be very carefull, we lost a lot of good grunts in Nam due to overturned mules.
Slow are easy is the word.

Good luck
