Postby charles fitton » Thu Aug 09, 2012 11:43 am

OK - Here's the two dollar question -

Which is No 1 cyl?

As basic a question as it is, I'm gonna need to know this someday...

thanks

I'm going to delete this, since it was incorrect, don't want to confuse anybody.

Charles

Are you having problems?

I have always considered the left side when looking at the crankshaft pulley as number one. It states this in the engine manual in figure 3-17 under step 1.

I hope all is well since my roadside assistance only covers areas to the south of your location.

Lance, which engine manual are you looking in? I've looked for this before with no luck. I have TM 5-2805-213-14. Thanks.

Charles :

The engine block has the cylinder I.D. numbers cast into the surface, on top of the case, between the pushrod tubes.

The #1 cylinder is on the drivers side. There is also a cast-in rotation / direction arrow on the side of the case, directly aft of the #2 cylinder. Clockwise, facing the v-belt pulley.

Good luck man.

AH HA!

Thw fertilizer is in the ventilation system.

No problems at all Lance - I'm likely to break something 'cause I really want to tinker. It's a beautiful machine and the envy of my peer group.

I was browsing my favourite current best read (big stack'o'mule manuals) and this info isn't self evident, or explained well.

"left " and "Right" on north American veh is usually determined by the position of the driver.. The front of an engine is "usually" at the front of the car. If not in a car, it's usually at the timing gears, except in some vintage boats when the flywheel is in front of the engine.

In a mule it's mounted backwards, and at the back of theveh.

The only ref I've found so far is in relation to the shrouds, and the photo is taken and the L and R named from the flywheel end......

not the end of the world, I'm sure..
