PBR Seminar at 2016 MVPA Convention in CA

Post by John Neuenburg » Wed Feb 24, 2016 8:26 am

There is a PBR seminar and discussion group planned for the 41st Annual Military Vehicle Preservation Association International Convention. The show will be August 11-13 in Pleasanton, CA with the seminar scheduled for Saturday morning. Pete Woodward will lead it, probably with help from some friends. It's about what it's like to own and restore one. Pete hopes to bring his newly finished boat and we are not sure if John Sorensen will bring his. This display area is not in water. We think another boat is coming (not a PBR) and are looking for more watercraft but we need to plan the space so please sound off if you are planning to bring a boat or anything else trailer-mounted. Event details including the Schedule is at www.MVPA.org on the Convention tab.

Another Northern California note - if anyone wants to display a boat or amphib in the water at the upcoming Camp Delta meet at Tower Park Resort in April we can add that into the Activities Schedule so people know to go to the marina. For those not familiar with the boat ramps in the area, the one at Tower Park Marina is a steep, levee-style ramp where the marina operator launches trailer boats with his tractor. There is a more conventional ramp six miles west at B&W Resort. We've seen a DUKW use the Tower Park ramp with no trouble and several people launched jeep trailers there for the races we had a couple years.

Good stuff! Have any of the boat units had a reunion out here near Mare Island Naval Shipyard? Now that there are two boats here it brings up the possibility of boat tours for the vets in the Sacramento River Delta where they trained. They probably roamed as far as East Potato Slough which is the river that Tower Park Resort is located on. I love volunteering someone else's equipment.

This is why we call the meet at Tower Park "Camp Delta." It's full of meandering, leveed rivers and farmland. Here is John Sorensen and crew during the reenactment battle we staged on the levee above camp with soldiers, VC, and the EMU-309 Huey:

John confirmed that PBR 210 will be at the show on a trailer. Pete will lead the seminar in Building D but unfortunately his boat isn't quite ready. Maybe we'll see it in the water at Tower Park in September or April. I guess we have a squadron out here now!

Also at the convention will be a WWII Higgins LCVP on a trailer and Bruce Hrabak will orchestrate some scheduled photo ops with troops and a vehicle disembarking. We hear the owner plans to start the thing up at times and this is guaranteed to be heard throughout the show!
