Sea Shadow being sold for scrap

Postby dilvoy » Fri Apr 13, 2012 3:36 pm

The Sea Shadow and the Hughs Mining Barge, which it sits within are being sold off for scrapping. The Barge was used by the CIA to pick up the Russian Submarine from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. They are being sold together by the GSA and at least the Sea Shadow must be cut up so the only value will be the valuethe base materials. Does anyone know if it the Sea Shadow was offered as a museum ship?

Did a google search on it and back in 2006 it was listed as available with the HMB-1 as available to any state, non-profit 501C org, etc.
Would always be the Navy's property and would have had to meet their "stringent"? criteria for dispalys, etc but would have been neat to put it somewhere near old Ironsides or such to show the contrast in Navy of yesteryear and the future.
The thing that got me was the top speed of 10MPH...wow, it had to be stealthy just in case some country 'rowed' a boat out to challenge it.
