LVTs used in Antarctica

Postby Steven Malikoff » Sat Apr 05, 2008 3:21 pm

G'day all,
Whilst perusing the fabulous RealMilitaryFlix site, I watched the film on 'Operation Highjump', the US expedition to Antarctica in 1946. Thirteen ships and 4000 men re-established a base there just after the war.

As well as Weasels and dozers, I found it quite interesting that LVT's were also used for exploration there as these two frame grabs show (and the commentary mentions).

This looks to be an LVT-3, from the vent louvres and shape. Or is it?
