Thanks for looking that up for me Greg.

With the new info, I looked in my TM9-2800 at all the trailers and I think I found it. There is a trailer with the description Trailer, 2 1/2 ton, 2W, Utility, Pole Type. Its purpose is to transport bridging equipment for the Corps of Engineers. The additional data says "the same basic trailer, equipped with special adapters is used to transport 5 different loads. Type 1 - Infantry support, raft equipment or pneumatic bridge equipment; Type 2 - Trestle bay load, 10 ton pontoon bridge; Type 3 - Triangulation tower; Type 4 - Utility power boat; Type 5 - Storm boats." The towing vehicle is specified to be truck 2 1/2 ton 6x6. The tongue is adjustable with overall length between 175 to 223 inches.

Hanno/John - does that sound familiar to what's in the museum?

Unfortunately I can't scan the page otherwise I would send it along.

Anybody know where there's a secret stash of bridging equipment trailers?

Check out this website:

http://www.nat-military-museum.lu/php/g ... allery.php

It shows a lot of M2 Assault boats in Luxembourg recently being used to re-enact a river crossing.

Have you had any luck in finding plans for the M2?

John

There is a seller (davesdrydock: http://myworld.ebay.com/davesdrydock ) on eBay that has copies of plans to build assault boats. The copies are pretty good, include 2 pages and have enough detail you could build one. Cost was about $20 including shipping.

The plans are dated 1935 and are for "Boat, Assault, Nesting, Half Squad Capacity". I think this is the M1 Assault Boat as it has a pointed bow and measures 12' by 4'4". Not having any experience in boat building, I think the M2 would be easier to build as this 1935 version has a curved hull rather than the flat bottom of the M2.

Many of theses boats were built here in Erie ,Pa at the now defunct Hammermill Paper Company for the war effort. Would be rare to find a boat made from the plant still around after all theses years.

Stars and Stripes recently ran an article "Monument pays tribute to role of engineer battalion in WWII Rhine crossing." In the article they have a short video showing reenactors using 3 assault boats to make a pontoon.

Old thread revival.
I'm looking at building a replica of an M2 Assault Boat and see some people have plans of them. Has anyone successfully built one?

Thanks
