Yes they did. They were used as litter carriers and as ammo resupply vehicles later in the European campaign. They were part of the armored task force sent to rescue Patton's son from prison camp.

Wreckless, it was Pattons son in law, Lt Colonel John K Walters, not son, who was in the Hammelburg prison camp. Just for your info. The task force was Task Force Baum, plenty of info on the web about the Hammelburg Raid.wreckless wrote:Yes they did. The TO&E (Tables of organization and equipment) lists all the vehicles authorized for use for all US Army units.
There are no weasels listed, but there are numerous pictures and stories to prove that armored units used weasels. In practice the units who needed the extra mobility replaced some of their jeeps for weasels. Since this was not "official", it is not possible to say exactly which units received weasels.

Amphibious Engineers were issued Weasels before there were sufficient DUKW's, also, the history of the 10th Mountain speaks for itself. I can remember the US Army having winter training with Weasels at the Presque Isle Air Force Base in Maine back in 1956. A lot of Weasel Seat Cushions (I sold out of more than 200 of them) and parts left over from this action ended up as surplus at Presque Isle Airfield.

Re: Which units used weasel?
I was just reading a list of losses for 2nd Armored vehicles during the war. the listed 1 m-29 damaged and 1 m-29 destroyed. Not sure what capacity they used them in but the y did have them. I am guessing officially if they made the list. I have mine marked in 17th engineers. Seemed appropriate as it was know to be used by engineers often but can't back it up for 2 AD.
