Dave, my diffs are dated 3-3-42 and have the same brake line brackets as yours. Possibly a change some time in Feb. 42.

Iowa,
please post the photo with the stamped date.
I think could be interesting for others Slat grill owners.
I know many people asked before where to find the place.
Cheers,
Charlie

suppose they should have the same date?
Not necessarily, my front one is dated 3-5-42.

Interesting that Charlie's diff is the same date as mine but stamped the other way around and with dots in between where mine has dashes in between. Same day, different line maybe????

Re: rear differential cover

Post by Bad Dad » Sun Jun 28, 2015 3:18 pm

I had a fellow slat owner come round this morning, and he looked at my rear axle lying on the garage floor and said that his has the T piece for the brake hose threaded into the top of the axle tube. This got me wondering whether I have the right axle, so I got onto the G and found this thread. My rear diff, is the same as the one in the photo in the first post, no threaded boss on the axle casing, it's a bracket top left for the brake T. My Jeep build date is 2nd Jan, 1942, and due to the brilliant info on here, I was able to unearth the date stamped on the casing on the right hand side. 31st December, 1941, quite legible, so three days before my build date. I reckon that's pretty kosher. Thank you all for the info.

Douglas.
