Per the General Specifications For the Willys Model MB Truck 1/4 -4x4 dated April 25, 1945 as noted in The Evolution of the Willys-Overland Jeep by Lloyd White, Volume 1 on page 73, Frame A-1142-A(R) (e).

Do you know Joel, or are you just baiting me?

Not"baiting" ,am still reading and learning from Volume 1 , but I did notice on Page 73 "An insert of hard wood" in reference to the front bumper filler with no species mentioned.
What I do know is that mine is manufactured from poplar and has manufacturing detail that differs from some of the repros being offered.
Now if we could get color photos of that filler as installed on finished and accepted MB's awaiting delivery we might be able to arrive at a definitive answer.
If for some reason I ever remove my bumper filler, I will take photos of how a factory issue A-1147 is really supposed to be cut.
I do not know what wood species is specified, but do understand why there could be substitutes. Am sure that Jeep production would not be held up for something like bumper filler material.
I wish Maynard Page were still alive to explain wood species.

There’s always boiled linseed oil mixed with turpentine!

I use Raw Linseed Oil with Turpentine, 50/50 mixture. Raw Linseed Oil is thinner than Boiled Linseed Oil and has better penetration.
