Willys W3 head markings

Post by pbr332 » Fri Dec 08, 2017 3:00 pm

I have a Willys head, smooth style top, with a 6-16 casting on the forward end, along with 63S6609 and W3 below that. Can anyone tell me what time frame this head is from? I tried uploading pictures but they're too large.

Are you sure about the casting number? MB heads should have a 639660 or 639660C casting number. If you email me a photo, I could post it for you.

The 6-16 is obviously June 16th...

My mistake, it's 639660C.

Excellent....the “C” tells us a lot actually. I think your head was cast on 6-16-42...post Slat Grill series but still “early”.

The raised “Willys” on MB heads didn’t show up until late 1942 or early in 1943, which is why I believe your head was cast in 1942.

I would agree with Micheal, the C was added in March 42 making your head after this but before the addition of the raised Willys as previously stated in above post in late 42 early 43.
