Repairing 3 bolt spare tire carrier

Post by JeePa » Sun Jul 09, 2017 5:53 pm

Yo G Fellowhood!
I am trying to restore / repair my s-grill's 3 bolt spare carrier. PO drove out original lugs and replaced with long bolts, in the process mangling and cracking around the lug holes. Also cracked a corner and twisted up the bracket and facing piece.
I have hammered metal facing flat and in process in welding up cracks and mangled ovaled-out lug holes.
Anybody know where to get replacement lugs?
Anybody know proper technique for pressing in/restraining lugs in place other than washers and nuts?
All else fails I will TIG weld lugs and grind down the weld for cosmetic similarities to original.
Or simply order one from Ron. (No guts no glory, right?)
As always, thanks for your ideas and suggestions.

I asked Rommel Juan if he had the correct lugs available separately, and he said he did. Give Ron or Benzinger a try.
