Frame Primer

Post by Arsene_Wenger » Sun Apr 23, 2017 4:11 am

Gents,

Should the early Slat Grill Frames have a black Primer.

My frame has bits of OD , the current blue paint , but i don't see either the red oxide or black.

The same question holds true for Differentials and the Body where i have seen the current blue , some OD layers , some black but I am not sure.

Thanks

Think the Slat paint systém is same like on MA:

-yellow green primer
-black primer
-OD

Black is the primer color on 12-31-41 MB, if that helps?

Lad.
Lad thanks for the photo. The differentials i have look exactly like yours. Is there any data on the Yellow Green Prime. I did not realize there should be 2 primers before OD.

If you go to the Frame/Chassis section on Jeep draw there are a couple of pictures of frame pieces with the zinc chromate primer:

I am fairly certain now i have this combination of Zinc Chromate over Black Primer on the differentials and the body. Will check the Frame again but i suspect it will be the same.

Cheers.

That pic above is from when I did my tear down before restoration. I found this when I removed the pintle backing plate on the inside of the jeep. I also found traces of if on the top rails of the frame, although it was mostly worn and hard to see there.

Thanks Rick

So when you re painted your frame you again went the Black Etched Primer + Zinc Chromate Primer route?
