REGISTRATION NUMBER

Post by Charlie S. » Thu Mar 09, 2017 4:56 pm

Hi,
a friend has an Early Slat Grill with DOD 2-2-42 and number 115466.
We need to know which could be a closest registration number for this Slat
We also want to know if before the number, W must be painted.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers

Good Morning,
With reference to your chassis number #115466,the book i have shows a US Army Contract #W-398-QM-10757 for Jeeps with the chassis range of 115263 to 116400.
The registration numbers are 2046837 to 2047574.
By my calculations your Jeeps number is 2047040...but please check yourself.
I have a Slat with a DOD of 12th Jan 42, which came directly to England, but another UK Jeep owner also has one from the same batch as yours.
All the best
Alan

Hi Alan,
many thanks for your news and sorry for this late reply.

We were looking for same info in other books and we arrived exactly at the same number as you.
Your mail confirmed that the most correct number for this Slat would be 2047040.

I guess we need to add the W before the number. I´m correct ?

Best regards

Hello Charlie,
In response for your message, i do not think you should have a W in front of the Jeeps original registration number. However, more experienced members might say different. But, based upon what i have found and read, the U.S.A. and the number should be in anti-photographic blue, without a W. The U.S.A. should be positioned above the numbers.
I have just posted some pictures of my Slat, DOD 12th Jan 42, on this forum, which i have just stenciled. I believe it to be correct.
I hope that helps.
best wishes
Alan
