WTS: 01-42 Dated Slat Grill Engine - Machine Work Complete

Post by Austringer » Fri Jan 06, 2017 8:58 pm

Have a Jan 1942 dated (machine work done) Willys Slat Grill engine with all machine work done. THe following has been completed.

Hardened Exhaust Valve Guides and Seats installed
Complete Valve Job
Crank was spec and then polished
New cam shaft bearings installed and cam installed
Tappets were check, ground if possible, replaced if out of spec
Top of block surface was machined
Cylinder head was machined (correct head for engine date)
Cylinders were checked for roundness and then check for piston clearance using original pistons that will go into it.

Engine is complete minus waterpump, gen, distributor. Has correct oil pan with riveted drain plug fitting.

Can not recall number stamped on side but was a factory replacement engine. Also, has 1944 dated Fort Devon rebuild tag on side.

Hi Jason,

Just to clarify: the casting date is 1-20 (of 1942) and the stamped date on the oil pan "surface" (on the block) is also dated Jan xx 1942? And I'm sincerely curious- wouldn't replacement blocks have an MB serial number stamped on the boss? This one has no MB and has only 5 digits instead of 6. Finally- do you have any pics of the block with the machine work completed, and of the water pump boss?

Thanks!
Chris

Thanks for posting pictures of your engine. My Slat's DOD is 12th Jan 42 and its original engine number was also a five digit one, just 200 behind yours.
Great information.
