Slat MB Pedals

Post by Michael O. » Tue Dec 27, 2016 12:03 pm

Please forgive me as I'm new to Slat Grill series MB's. My recently acquired Jan '42 MB has a squared (cast) clutch pedal and the rounded (cast) brake pedal. It's obvious that these pedals have been with this jeep for many years. My question is whether this combination is typical or has the the brake pedal been swapped early in this jeep's life? In some other posts there are photos of other slats with this pedal configuration but I wanted to confirm if this set up is correct.

Thanks in advance!

The 'squared' and 'rounded' edges are correct for the earlier slat's pedals. My #105557 slat has them...

Thanks James for mentioning this combination on your Dec '41 MB.

My "new" MB is MB 111414 which Tom W estimates was delivered on 1-16-42.

The data plates were missing, 1-8-42 has to be real close if not it's actual delivery date
frame number is 13868.

You can safely assume it will be 7 or 8 January 1942, yes.

I think you mean body number? Our body number is 13772 on frame number 110247.

Yes! I meant body number, your body is numbered earlier than mine, but as the frames still vey close!
I saved my dash and windshield tool box lids, and hood, but had to replace the tub with repo, the jeep sat in a West Texas oilfield trucking yard unstarted for several years until I realized its significance as an early slat grill, paid 450.00 u.s. Dollars and put new points, plugs, fuel pump, and gas tank and it's cj engine started first attempt. That oilfield trucking yard used oilfield salt water to water the truck yard to keep the dust and dirt settled, on the ground. After several years setting idle in that yard the tube collected blowing salt filled dust, then rains would just activate corrosion to eat the floors and several inches of the side panels, it was above my welding and body work skills to attempt to save it. Hated to make that decision.

Also David, were your painted hood numbers original and still with your slat grill? I had to estimate mine, and am using W-2041744, if yours are original, I wondered how far I am off? Thanks, Hal

The body, frame, axles, wings, hood and windshield on our jeep have been together since the factory. About 90% of the body is original, with some floor parts and a few other patches replaced. I didn't find a trace of the number on the hood, so our hood number is guesstimated.

However, MB 110267 (20 units after ours), d.o.d. 1/8/42, had hood number 2042318. This information comes from a WW2 document, as far as I know this jeep doesn't exist anymore.
