Going by this post, draw your own conclusion. Cast 10-30, that would be a 1939 engine.

Re: Casting 10-30
Gindi,
I don't think he MB contract was signed until the summer of 1941. So May 41 would have had to be for an MA.
I have a block that is stamped MB 103339 which has a cast date of 7-30 and machining date in early Aug 41.
It's my belief that Willys had extra blocks for the MAs and when the production line stopped they started using them on MBs.

Re: Casting 10-30
The confusion is the date system....if the block machining was what was posted in the original post .... 5-11-41, that would be May 5, 1941 and if it was cast on 10-30, or October 30th it would have had to have been October 30, 1940.
However the actual machining date seems to be 11-5-41 or November 5, 1941 and the casting date of 10-30 would have been October 30, 1941 so the motor could very well be a very early MB.
To Americans, Ford, Willys, Dodge, etc. it is Month/Day/Year....in Europe it is Day/Month/Year. That was the cause of the initial confusion.
Now if other MB blocks with original serial numbers could be found and their machining dates compared....it would be more info to help place this block into the early MB sequence. I'm not sure if this could possibly also be a block for the late Willys civilian vehicles or not though which I think would have had a serial number beginning with "442-xxxxxx" indicating it was for a 1942 year vehicle.

Re: Casting 10-30
Maybe some early MB owners can post the motor number, casting info and machining info for comparison...you'd be close I think doing it that way. The G503 Serial Number List does not tell us if info posted was ORIGINAL (data plates/motor numbers/etc.) or estimated in many instances so you can't just go by that.
