Windshield on Slat vs. Standard MB
According to some info, Slats suppose to have shorter windshields than MBs? Shorter in what sense and by how much? Does any one have dimensions and could post a photos?
Thanks in advance,

The windshield FRAME/insert that holds the glass is the same size, the lower panel area is shorter by something like an inch or more. As long as you know the height of the later style you can pretty much figure it out when a short one is found. Search the gee for photos....SEARCH "windshield" in the SLAT section.

Re: Windshield on Slat vs. Standard MB
According to Nabholtz the short windshield was only used for November '41 MB's, for December '41 onwards he lists the standard type (no exact point of change over provided). I think the only difference between the early standard type and regular standard type is the lack of brackets for the rifle rack on the first.

Re: Windshield on Slat vs. Standard MB
Thank you, Gentlemen.
If this is an inch or so difference, it can be easily measured. Since my prospective purchase is February 1942, it looks like I don't need to worry about its height, rather whether it should have or not the rifle brackets.

February '42 should not have the rifle brackets/holder on the windshield frame (at least not factory installed, could be a field mod). I believe this wasn't a factory item until ~September 1943 for Willys, maybe later for Ford.

Re: Windshield on Slat vs. Standard MB
My slat 100161 has a taller "normal" MB windshield frame, I was pretty sure it should have the shorter one. I thought I'd wait and see, maybe I'd stumble across a short one. I guess that's pretty much out, if they were only used in November. I guess I will just have to shorten the one I have. If someone with a short frame could measure the overall height or even the height of the lower panel for me I surely would appreciate it. I did manage to stumble across a pair of brass latches, however. BW

According to the first MB parts book, the first 10,000 MBs had the low windshield assembly, attached is a photo of a low w/s on a vep GPW

And which "first MB book" would that be? Just curious because according to this post, slat #3,545 was the last with a low windshield:

Re: Windshield on Slat vs. Standard MB
"Just curious" notice I stated "first parts book" which was a TM 10 1206 or 1207 that I no longer have and do not remember the change number. I had gotten it from Lawrence Nabholtz over 40 years ago, but I did not forget many references in it which mentioned "on first 10,000 trucks" the windshield being one of them. I am only repeating what Willys Overland printed in the TM , NOT what they ultimately may have done. While I'm sure that you are still curious, observe the photo I provided. That is what the original post requested.

That number sounds about right.macaddict23 wrote: And which "first MB book" would that be? Just curious because according to this post, slat #3,545 was the last with a low windshield:

Thanks for the photos. They show a significant difference of lower panel height. It looks to me like 1/3 or so. It would be nice to know exact height in inches, though.

My 12-19-41 #105557 slat has the normal size outer w/s frame, NOT the earlier short style.

Thank you DanoZeman and Gindi for providing the exact number and other details. It looks like they might introduce higher frame already in late 1941.
