Voltage regulator. What are the odds...
...of finding a 11V or 12V dated voltage regulator for a slat grill? Is there a good source for rebuilding/restoring one to original condition? Thanks.

Re: Voltage regulator. What are the odds...
Regulators are "dated" on the top/rear leg of the base and on the data tag on the cover. Repop data tags are available and can be stamped with anything you want. The kicker here is the date code on the base....aside from some major grinding/smoothing and restamping, as long as you have an early base you can conveniently spray enough wrinkle paint over whatever date code is on it that it is no longer possible to see the date code. You need the early cover on it of course.
Generally the internals fall into one of three groups...clean, no rust and no crud that only need the contacts cleaned and to be set up with your genny. The second group which is full of rust and damaged internals which is a poor candidate for anything and...the third group which has some damage or major rust and contamination and might never be usable again.
You even find regulators with the "wrong" covers on them, an "A" model with a "G" cover or a dated base with a different dated original data tag on the cover. I'd suggest you keep looking for the Holy Grail dated regulator but if it holds up the resto, then find one that works and continue the search after you get the jeep on the road...same for the model genny you have vs the one you need.
Good Luck in the search!
