Willys MB 130,499 Slat Gril? Willys Script?

Post by signsup » Thu Feb 12, 2015 6:43 pm

I'm a GPW guy. got a friend looking at Willys MB 130,499 DOD of March, 42. Jeep does not have slat grill, but later grill. No photos of rear panel, so I don't know what to tell him. With this serial number and DOD, what should this jeep have or not have on it to be "correct".
Thank you. I'll hang up and listen.

It get's us started.

Presume no blackout light on fender, but a common field mod. Presume no first aid kit behind dash. What about ignition? Keyed? Master switch? Locking glovebox? Two hinges on glovebox lids, one one lone hinge? Sheller steering wheel or steel rod? No greas gun or lube chart. I know the GPW's went from a three stud spare tire carrier to a two stub, what would this Willys have on it?

Just wondering, if I wanted to restore back to factory class, what would it take. Motor pool class would be much more tolerant.

Thanks for any help. I'll start looking through some books I may have on jeep history.

Robert a couple of quick ones,

From the factory o blackout light , single hinge tool box lids, key ignition and glove box, Sheller steering wheel, 3 stud spare wheel carrier, "Willys" on Rear panel with no Jerry can from the factory, no grease gun, first aid kit brackets or lube chart holders.

But when we start talking vehicles used in the field or depot rebuilds the just about anything goes

See if it has "BRT" on the data plate. There were a lot of British contract jeeps in this serial number range....... -RG

Thanks, Richard.

Would that make the equiptment/options different. Drivers blackout light?
Would it make this jeep any more "valuable" ?

No Bob, they were pretty much a standard MB except for the BRT on the data plate. Are they worth any more? Maybe to a Brit. ............... -RG

I haven't seen a photo yet of the data plate. If it has the BRT on it, would that be a strong indication that it actually went overseas? Or were there jeeps made to the DBT contract and then "transferred" to other services?

Robert,

It is my belief that BRT Jeeps in the US (and a lot of those so marked out here as well) never got near Britain and were kept by the US with the shortfall made up later.
