Proper inter tube for solid wheel?

Post by chasendeer » Thu Jan 16, 2014 5:19 am

I have a set of solid wheel 16x4 wheels that I need tubes for. What is the spec on the tube? Is it the same as a combat wheel? Did they come with the valve stems protectors?
Thanks
Jay

Inner tube must match the tire size, be sure to order Passenger Car Tubes with TR-15 Stem.

I do not remember the WWII combat wheel type tubes ever being on the civilian market. They did show up surplus thru the 50's. Except for the marking, the difference is hard to tell.

TR-15 stems do not seem right. I check out the rim against a combat wheel. The hole is smaller on the solid. Any ideas?
Thanks

Did you try a tube with the TR-15?, The tubes with smaller stems are usually industrial or implement tubes, and you may find yourself purchasing and returning a few inner tubes before you are satisfied. There is a history of implement tubes that have the wrong stem location being sold as passenger car tubes.

Hi Mr. Chasendeer,

MA, GP, BRC, MB slat grill solid rims have a 9/16" for the valve stem. This requires a TR13 valve stem. TR13 valve stems are 1/2" in diameter and TR15 valve stems are 5/8" in diameter which is needed for a combat rim since those rims have a 11/16" valve stem hole.

Thanks Tom
I picked up a TR 13 and it fits nicely.
