Rear leaf springs question

Post by BOOTS » Tue Oct 15, 2013 2:25 am

What would be the correct rear leaf spring clip location for a 12/41 slat I recently purchased a set of the clips and there are only two different sizes in the set I received the front will work as will the outboard on the rear but it looks like the rear inboard are to short because of the extra leaf I have 8 springs in the front and 9 in the rear.
Thanks
James

Another way of telling is there should be a hole in the 3rd and 6th (front) leaves and the 3rd and (I think} 5th rear. Those holes align with the dimple in the clips and when you crimp the clip to the spring the dimple should lock into the hole. Hmmm...not sure on the 5th leaf on that rear spring but I will check on Sunday when I get back to my jeep. Either way there should be a hole in the leaf.

Dear David,

I don't know if this picture could shed some light about this topic (the spring clips are not so well visible).

This picture has been taken from an original slat grill technical manual (Canadian Contract)

Hoping this may help the discussion.

Best Regards,

Luigi

Hi,

the picture was taken from the Manual M440-W1 "Maintenance Manual for Light Utility" Canadian Contract LV-241 LV-242 January 1942.

Concerning your question I could verify in "lawrence nabholz" book in order di verify if there is a reference of the change you describe.

Best Regards,

Luigi

If your original springs have not been messed with by Bubba....and the leaves are all CORRECT....

Front/Early = EIGHT leaves. There are FOUR clips. TWO go on the #3 leaf and TWO go on the #6 leaf.
Rear/Early = NINE leaves. There are FOUR clips. TWO go on the #3 leaf and TWO go on the #5 leaf.

You can see this in Luigi's photo:
