Not a great shot but one I found on my computer which was taken prior to mounting the tires around ten years ago. At least it shows the size markings relative to the valve stem location.

Hi all
I just got a T3c Bantam trailer last week and was told that
it looked to be a 1946. I took the tires off the rims that were
on it witch one was a solid disk wheel and the other was
not. In side the reglar rim it was stamped 16X4.50 10-46
The solid disk wheel with both 90 degree angles on both
sides was stamped 16X4.00 3-45. Is the solid disk wheel a
Kelsey Hayes a A465?????
Did Bantam use the war rims after the war?????
Wich is the correct rim for the T3C Bantam Trailer

Hi Bob at Warsaw:

1. Is the solid disk wheel a Kelsey Hayes a A465????? ANS: Maybe. What color is the base layer paint? Lusterless olive drab or a civilian color? It could also be a Motor Wheel 16X4.00" solid disc wheel that may or may not have been a A-465 lusterless olive drab part used by Willys. The 3-45 stamped manufacture date is, to my mind, unusually late for a 16X4.00" solid disc wheel. But there it is nonetheless. :) Post a photo of the front side of that solid disc wheel so we can see the how the lug nut holes are formed, as that might identify the manufacturer notwithstanding the 90/90 inner rim shape.

2. Did Bantam use the war rims after the war????? ANS: Yes. Bantam used combat wheels on some of their T3C civilian 1/4 ton trailers, and combat wheels are definitely war rims. Bantam also used some solid disc wheels on their early T3C trailers and some of those might have been surplus war rims while others might have been newly manufactured solid disc civilian wheels. I've never had the opportunity to measure the wheel width of a solid disc wheel found on a Bantam T3-C trailer, so don't know whether they were 4.0" or 4.5" (or both) wide.

3. Which is the correct rim for the T3C Bantam Trailer? Early on solid disc wheels and combat wheels were used on Bantam T3-C trailers, while by 1946 I imagine most wheels were the ventilated disc 16X4.5" wheels. So depending on the manufacture date of your trailer as determined by its VIN or, in its absence the trailer's features, you may have a choice of wheels.
Happy Jeep Trails,

Bob,
I have a T3c with combat wheels. It is a very early one. From my experience I have found that the very early trailers had combat wheels. Later trailers had 4.5" solids, and then even later ones were standard rims. I have not seen 4" solids on BT3C trailers. My observations... hope that helps.

Update:

As Luca pointed out, there has also been a post war production of Italian solid rims. I thought this info could be a good addition to this link.

I really think this topic should be turned into a "sticky" on the MB knowledge base.

I doubt that there will ever be this much precious knowledge about these rims anywhere else.
