Large scale Jeep model.

Post by svt40 » Thu Jun 14, 2007 10:37 am

Who makes a large scale jeep model? 1/25, 1/24 maybe even 1/12. I saw the Hasegawa one but it did not look too good. It looked like a 1/35 kit that was lust enlarged. The toy jeeps will not do they are too far from what they should look like.

Yes...those prices are absurd. A REAL MB/GPW can be purchased for that kind of dough. I'll bet they have limited clientel.

I should have been more clear. I am looking for an unbuilt model. Something to put together myself.

I have several of the older Tamiya 1/35, a Few Italeri 1/35 and 1 of the new Tamiya 1/35. But the scale is just too small to detail them up like I want to. Hence my search for a larger scale version.

I think the hasagawa is the best you can get in that size in plastic.

Or get the danburry mint. take it apart and super detail it.

Tamaiya made a 1/20 in metal, a pre-made slat grill that is pretty darned good. Good luck finding one, I got lucky a few years ago and found two of them at a hobby shop: http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM23009
Hasegawa also makes a plastic MB kit. I've never seen one built.

Jeep model

Far and away the best jeep model kit I've seen is the 1/24th scale MB made by Gonio in the Czech Republic. The frame and wheels are diecast and the body parts are light steel stampings. The detail is incredible. Gonio made (and probably still makes) several different US military vehicles from the WWII period. Most are sold as assembled vehicles but the MB was available in kit form as well. They made the jeep without Chrysler's blessing, so as far as I know the kits are no longer shipped to the USA, but you still occasionally see one on ebay, or perhaps you might be able to get one of the Czech G503 members to send you one.

If you email me I'd be glad to send you photos of what the kit looks like.

I own a Gonio WC51, and a WC52. There is something about the body parts being constructed of sheetmetal instead of plastic or diecast that appeals to me.

The Gonio isn't a bad model, to be sure, but sit one next to the Tamayia ready-built die cast job. There's simply no comparison (even though the Tamayia one does have a few minor errors in it).
I did fine an epay vendor who has the Gonio Jeeps. Yeah, they're really tough to find. I lucked up on mine...

Lee, svt40 is looking for a kit he can build, not a ready made model.

This is the kit to get - if you can find one.

Extremely expensive but, probably, one of the best.

svt40,
If your still looking for a 1/24 jeep model kit, check out these sources:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Italeri-Italeri-1-2 ... dZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Italeri-1-24-Fi ... dZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/1-24-FIRE-JEEP-ITAL ... dZViewItem
Image
I just received one, and after examination, it appears all the parts needed to construct a military jeep are included. It may not be perfect but looks pretty good. It has a Ford crossmember and Firestone tires. It is Italeri #3722. It also has a somewhat detailed motor/transmission/transfercase. The "Fire" parts are on a seperate sprue, and can be left off the model.

Although not a kit, I know that in 2002 Hasbro brought out a large scale Willys Jeep for its GI Joe line. I haven't seen one up close but from a distance it looked good compared to some of the more basic 12" figure jeeps. It appeared to be quite detailed and even had weathering applied.
Like I say not a kit but it could be updated depending on your modelling skills
