Any 1/35th modelers in here?

Post by Beagle_Hauler » Wed Jun 08, 2011 7:53 pm

Ok, started off as a kid in the 70's building models. Fell in love with all things WWII. Stopped with the glue in '84 when I went off to college. Then, in 2000 it hit me: I'm in a new house, it has a spare room..why not? So I jumped back into the hobby. Flash forward ten years and it finally hits me: Why am I building 1/35th scale kits when I could be driving the real 1:1 things. So I have a '44 Jeep on it's way to my house. My first real MV!! No glue on this baby... So, any fellow plastic enthusiasts here? Or at least any MV owners who still dabble in the plastic? I am mostly hooked on the WWII era of 1/35th. Tamiya (my first love) rocked my young 11 year old mind back in 1977, and Italeri was the new kid on the block. Dragon came along when I was in modeling hibernation those 16 years and Tasca and Tristar are my new fav's of the day. Can't wait to get Tristar's new Jagdpanzer IV L/70. Anybody here interested in trading? Gonna have to sell off some of my stash to buy new kits as they come out since I've just purchased a real Jeep and have to cut back seriously on model buying. :D Well, lets chat!

Hoooray! You know I started building models as a kid in the mid-1970's and got seriously hooked on all things WWII (airplanes, ships, tanks, etc) so I blame Tamiya-san for my new Ford GPW addiction. I just figured it was time to work on the real things instead of the little plastic wannabe's.. ;-) I'm on the West Coast of USA, where you at pal? I too have heaps of kits (and have sold some of the ones I'll never get to in order to fund my new Jeep purchase) but would love to trade and wheel and deal with you or anyone else here. Whatcha got on the workbench (even though "paused" you have to have something gathering dust...)? I've just started DML's 105mm Howitzer, had to open it up the other day to check it out and now I'm stuck working on it. It's a pain in rear too with their instructions that jump all over.. Later HellFire!

Mark,

I have DUKW gathering dust, the last model I did was a favour for a mate of a Bantam & that wae last Xmas, I may be able to get back into it next year after the Jeep is finished. I have a Dragon 1/6th Willys kit & it is my plan to make it like my real one but it is going to take some work.

I am in Victoria Australia.

Here is a 1/16th model of an Aussie Leopard I posted here a while back, Tamiya Kit with all the Australian mod's by me.

I haven't built any 1/35 models in a few years. The last one I did was of a M88A1 tracked recovery vehicle. I would love to find/scratch build a M944 truck mounted machine shop AKA "Bat-mobile"

I've been modeling since the early 70's and my latest acquisition is the Bronco models GPW kit, I'm really looking forward to digging into this latest offering of the GPW :D

Been doing models since about '68.
Have not done one in about 10 years :(.
Still have over 200 kits in boxes.
Mostly 1/72 (easier to store!) and a few 1/48.
Won a few awards even a fist place in the national Show in Cleveland in '79! My He-111 Z-1 was anew release two weeks prior! still have it.
Majority Ww2 aircraft and vehicles, dioramas too, and some favored jets and cold war aircraft.
The Tu-95 in awaiting it's turn.

Back into it after 20 years.

My first try with acrylics instead of enamels.

Nice work ! I'm going to take another try with acrylics.....I'm much more comfortable with enamels. In the past I've struggled with brushing acrylics.

Thanks. After being away from the models for so long I tried my first with enamels. Way too thick. So I looked at a few videos on Youtube and all were with acrylics. I like the medium and am getting better as I go. Next up is a German soldier.

I tried another US Solider with a wash of flat black as primer and it just keep bleeding through. So back to the white actual primer.
