I think the link must be a Pacific Rim Link, because it works for me.

I am so sick and tired of this crap about how the HMMWV has these so called new Short comings, The vehicle was in service 15 yrs before we ever went into Iraq, Worked out wonderfully in the Gulf War 1...now didn't it?
Now the enemy plants a 155mm shell next to it and blows it up and the truck has shortcomings..... :?

Did you see the picture of the HMMWV in the article? must be an extra 6k on top of the vehicle, I somehow think that this truck was NEVER designed for what they are now using it for. I mean the MB/GPW was in service from 1941-Vietnam, How is that it Sufficed? Can you say M113!

The HMMWV does what it was origianally designed for and much much more than the designers and the rocket scientists at the pentagon had ever hoped for.

Yea! We need something new but unfortunaltey it will be LONG after Iraq that these troops will ever see it.....Remember, The UH-1H is till flying, as well as B-52's, We have nothing...Nothing on the drawing boards to even start replacing Aircraft such as the CH-47,Apache, Kiowa and even the Blackhawk, These airframes are old.....

Wow, Did I get off on a tangent or What......Sorry.

I'll take a HMMWV anyday of the week for what it was designed for...An All Terrain, Versatile, Multi-purpose Platform for just about anything you put on it. It may not do it all well but it does it better than any other platform ever devised on 4 Wheels.

I can hardly wait to see what POS the brain Surgeons have in mind to replace it..

I agree with you Steve (and have said so before)

You can bet whatever they design to replace the Humvee now will be inappropriate for the next operation that the US Military becomes involved in.

I can see it now, troops stuck with some hugely overweight, obese aroured truck that gets bogged all the time while distributing chocolate in some peace keeping operation in Urkadurkastan.
All the time saying "if only we had a light tactical truck to do this job..."

Use the right tools for the right job guys!

I just dont see how you could possibly replace the Humvee..

Sure they can update them to suit requirments or whatever... But nothing will ever have the impact that the Humvee did !!
