hey joel,
there is a difference between the 2. the west coast mirror has a split screen. the top is flat and the bottom is at an angle and the bottom mirror is at an oppisite angle on each side. i have the same problem with my passenger mirror. if you can see well behind you through the top mirror than the bottom seems way out of wack and vise versa.
not to mention with the kevlar doors and command shelter i installed i have huge blind spots where the mirrors block my view on both sides. pulling out of certain intersections i have to lean as far across the tunnel to get a peek at oncoming traffic. not to mention everytime my son opens the passenger door too far it bumpss the mirror.
i have a few old style mirrors that attach to the firewall that i've been thinking about trying out.
does anyone have the old style single frame side view mirrors on there truck? how's the visibility? any advice to improving or upgrading the west coast mirrors?

Awww... C'mon Joel!
That (and the you say Aluminum, I say Aluminium one) are the only jokes I've got!
With regards to the blind spots, if you move the driver side mirror (that's the one on the... never mind)
to the lower "late A2" position it fixes up most of the blind spot issues on that side.
BUT, then the lower section of the mirror points too high. So you need the new, new style mirror with a realigned curved mirror..
I have one of these on my truck, but as it's designed for the LHS it sort of doesn't work properly with me driving on the RHS.
(Actually, I've been waiting for a mirror post to come up here so I can list it on eBay! )
But whatever you do Dave, DO NOT fit the old style mirror on your truck!
You obviously haven't driven a truck with them.
You cannot see a &%&ing thing out of them!!
FWIW I think you'd be much better off to make up some sliding sleeves for the mirror arms on the A2 mirrors so you can cut and extend them outboard a bit more.
Cheers

i have a few of the old style single frame mirrors in the barn but i've heard from a reliable source (brad) they aren't worth installing. i have to agree with you joel, the darn thing is already wide enough. i don't think extending the arms is an option for me. i was considering buying a good set of mirrors at the truck and trailer shop and painting them green but i would have to drill into my doors. that definately would not work for me because i take the doors on and off depending on the weather. so i'd also be interested in those part numbers for the upgraded west coast mirrors.
thanks,
dave

did you think about attacking them to the brush guard? sorta like the semis have em up on the front of the hood, you could maybe even have em set on a spring so they were able to take a beating if off roaded.... that was my plan to do with my big round one..which is a military one... keep an eye on ebay im sure more might come up...

I actually think the A2 mirrors on the Humvee are great and provide good visibility! (when they are adjusted properly ) .
I can reverse my M1026 into amazingly tight spots using them.
Also, If you set them up as per the TM, the doors don't hit them when you open them if you have the restraining strap attached.
I'll get the part no's off the new,new mirror tonight and post it.
I might even take a pic too.
Cheers

hey brad,
do you really say aluminium? lol. i've heard aluminumunum before.
i agree the mirrors work well enough to back into a tight spot but they have there limitations.
i have the door straps attached but my problem is that the drivers side frame is swung far enough forward that the door does not bump the mirror. if i put the passenger side frame that far forward i just can't see through the kevlar door. so i had to swing the frame in to see the mirror and the door bumps it. i was even thinking about putting an extra stitch in the retaining strap so the door wouldn't open too far.
ow well, i'm tired of bitching about it. i'm starting to sound like student. just kiddin. i'm going to start a new post titled what do you like most about your humvee.

Hey Guys,
Good thread. On my m1037, I put the original mirrior brackets back on with the rectangle mirror. When adjusted correctly they work fine and they have less of a visual foot print to block your side views. The one beef I have is that they tend to vibrate more than the west coast style.
Neither mirrior will allow you to see the "map of tazzie" behind you with any accuracy.
