new style of temp guage??

Post by hummer4x4guy » Thu Dec 14, 2006 11:54 am

I saw this on an ebay listing today for a temp guage for a humvee..

...The new Hummers getting delivered to the Government are being re-upfitted with new Temp Guages. It seems not only do these need to show the operator that the temp is 240 degrees, now these have been re-upfitted to a guage that has a light that comes on above 230

anyone confirm this? seen one? got a pic?

new style of temp gauge

Post by dilvoy » Thu Dec 14, 2006 1:08 pm

I read somewhere that the max temp limit was raised ten degrees, before it had to be told to service personnel about an overheat, on a Humvee. I think it was in PS Magazine. So is this light actuation temp the new or old temp? I think idiot lights are a good idea if used in conjunction with gauges.

new style of temp gauge

Post by gizip » Mon Dec 29, 2008 1:56 pm

I installed two of these new gauges in standard M998s. they work OK but using the regular temperature sender (TS6058) the temp reading is low. The original gauges read approx 200 degrees running hot and now my new gauges are indicating only 180 degrees. This would indicate to me a different sender is required to get an accurate reading. Does anyone have access to the TM9-2320-387-24P to give me a part number of the correct sender?

Only 1 sender listed for all the M11XX variants

NSN 6620-01-194-6586

But the gauge has 2 listed, says both can be used on all M11XX variants....???.....

I'm running one of these gauges in my truck, and I agree with gizip, it does seem to run lower than the stock gauge. But I would have said only about 10 degrees.

My truck's fan comes like clockwork on at 215 degrees and cools it down to 200 and turns off.

On this new style gauge the fan comes on with the needle vertical, which is about 207 degrees.

I'm not sure what temp the warning light comes on

The M998 engine parts manual also shows the same sender for all 6.2, 6.5NA and 6.5 TD variants (though with a spelling mistake:roll:):

6620-01-194-6586
09527
TS6058
TRANSMITTER,ENGINE COOLANT TEMPRATURE

So I guess there is just one sender.
I've just bought one of those non contact temperature guns and was intending to do a "calibration" of the gauge once I get the truck back together.

temp guage

Post by kauaidragon » Tue Dec 30, 2008 10:11 pm

I just changed my temp guage to new one and its reading a little better than the old one. The old guage used to hit 240 deg. sometimes on a hill climb, now it reads 220 deg. So it was 20 deg off. I still wasn't sure if the temp guage was reading right so I tried a infrared temp reading on the engine and got 180 degrees on the engine block. So I think Faria guages aren't so hot so to speak.

An infrared temp gauge is just for surface temperatures you need to mesure the temperature in the water.
