A quick intro...
Hello All,
Just a quick intro,
After seeing my first row of HMMWV's lined up 16 years ago on a military base in Texas I have always wanted one!
I finally decided to take the plunge and dive in head first by buying an incomplete rolling shell as a project to rebuild.
I am based in Sydney Australia so I'm a little fish out of the water in some ways (However have already had the benefit of Brad and James help).
I will need lots of bits and pieces and tech help and am looking forward to getting to know you all.
David.

Someone else needed help on the Pacific Highway between West Burleigh and Mudgerabba last week or was it the week before. Don't see too many real ones in this neck of the woods.

a quick intro
Welcome, David. You have a lot of fun ahead of you. I guess the most challenging thing will be to find a economical way to ship heavy items from the U.S. I have heard from a reliable source, that you can't carry shock absorbers in your airline luggage. Do you have any fotos of your Humvee that you can post here?

I wish you'd told me that BEFORE I tried George!!dilvoy wrote: I have heard from a reliable source, that you can't carry shock absorbers in your airline luggage.
I'm glad you made the plunge David.
I believe you bought two.
Twice the fun!
Artificer, QLD is a actually quite a Humvee enclave.
It is where most of the Aussie trucks are. I can think of 4 owners straight away and one has multiple trucks.
Cheers

Corvette Conversions in Gympie, Qld. have started into the Hummer line recently, so they may have some interchangable parts for the Humvee.
This is the mob who do the LH drive to RH drive on Corvettes just as you enter Gympie from the South...
I bought in $2000.00 worth of jeep part in luggage in 2001, no tax paid...and I declared it...just got the Customs fellas into a conversation about jeeps and things, one owned a TJ or something....and they waved me through.

Hi Jon,
I routinely travel to the US and have brought suitcases full of Humvee parts back with me.
(It means you get to meet lots of new and interesting people! )
Being a Silver Frequent Flyer means I get 3 32kg (72lb) suitcases for free.
Also an additional 32kg suitcase only cost US$95!
(compared to the US$77 I've just paid to have a 14lb injector pump airmailed over to Oz)
The only "issue" I've had was with QANTAS with the shocks.
I couldn't convince the bonehead in LA that they weren't gas filled.
That's despite a 15 minute engineering explanation of how dampers worked and how you could tell a gas assist damper vs a normal oil damper.
So I lost US$200 of new shocks
Worst thing was that I could have carried 10kg of other parts if I'd known!!
But I've never had an issue with customs.
Cheers

Hi Jon,
Good to see you over on the Humvee pages.
I didn't know Blackdog hosted pics.
I use Photobucket as below the pic is an automatic [img] link that you can simply copy and paste on the forum.
