Ok PLEASE can I get some accurate insurance information?
Ok, Folks can we please get more indepth information on hmmwv insurance. As in my last post a couple of weeks ago I could only insure my hmmwv with southern-owners commercial insurance company. So as we speak my hmmwv is insured under my commercial policy along with my vans and pickups. Its ONLY has liability and 100/300. I called all of the mil vehicle insurance companies and Im told a 1988 hmmwv is too new. With all the hmmwvs out there, can we all check our policies and make some suggestions. I have also tried collector car insurance and same thing, too new.
Thanks all, and Im going to fix my leaking input seal on the drivers side this weekend!!!!!

Many Insurance companmies will insure humvees. Some will list it as and AM General Utility some not. Some require the full modern VIN number and you must have the military serial number converted by adding the missing characters that the mil does not need and some companies have no problem with the short production serial number as is. The AMG factory manual shows how to do this. There are also some companies that will not insure humvees or any mil vehicle for that matter. If you are going with standard truck insurance you will have many choices of companies to deal with and the rate is arount 1500 a year and that will vary greatly depending on coverage and location of the truck.
Classic, historic, antique, collectible, whatever insurance is another animal. Hagerty, Taylor, Gulfway and others handle that business and will insure these type vehicles with stated value policies. Most of them require that it be stored in a locked garage and there are certain limitations regarding use. In addition they require the vehicle to comply with the requirements of the state laws which define antique vehicles. All states that I have dealt with require the vehicle to be AT LEAST 25 years of age from date of delivery by the original manufacturer. The humvees which are the oldest out there will be eligible in 2010-2011 or thereabouts. If you want to play games with the description of the vehicle and are dealing with some clerk who has not a clue as to what you are talking about you may get one insured now as a collectible or whatever but beware if you have a claim with injuries involved. Remember that you can open a policy with these people sight unseen but when there is a claim they will definitely review in person the case for payout. This will especially be true if there are any lawsuits possible. Plan on an agent coming out to appraise the claim in person and submitting his report to the home office before any check gets cut. It is at this point where you may receive a letter telling you that your policy is and was void. You may also get a check from the company in the amount of your premium that you paid them.
If you want to prove this out call up your company on the phone and ask for the claim department and tell them specifically that you have insured a modern (as they call them) vehicle with them which is not 25 years old. What would happen in the event of a massive claim and lawsuit. If your company will not say that this is AOK then via con dios amigo. You will legally be standing alone. This has happened numerous times. The problem is not sliding something through and getting a policy in the first place. It is having the company be OK with it in the second place after the claims.
This subject is one that we all deal with and it comes up from time to time but the one answer is always the same: be sure when dealing with your insurance company. They are going to be your partner when you lose a wheel and take out a station wagon full of kids. Make sure they are on board with what you are doing.

Humvee Insurance
I had GIECO for 1 1/2 years and they sent me a letter stating that they did did insure non-passager vehicles, and droped me.
I searched and found Country Insurance a year and 1/2 ago. I have it fully insured and a replacement cost of $42K. They sent me a letter 2 months ago stating that the rerplacement cost my not be $42K. If the Humvee gets lost or totaled I can show 1025 Humvees costing that number.
