Got Rust?

Post by almonster » Mon Sep 18, 2006 2:57 pm

Since I'm re-doing my hood, I took off my IR light and when I did - I heard rattling.

I thought something had broken loose, but it completely rusted out. One reason why my IR light never worked.

Hope the rest of the G owners have better lights than this.

I'm in the market for a new one, if you have one, please PM me.

Thanks.

Hey at least you have a dry light bulb...mine was full of water. These plastice BO drive light hold more water than they keep out. If you replace it with new and do not plan on driving through deep water, consider drilling a condensate/drain hole.

Ted

PS. Did you ship the CIP?

Ted, I am packaging it up tomorrow to ship out. I had some problems finding enough cardboard.

Are you guys talking about the blackout driving light? If so its not IR.... the IR lights have the solid deep red almost black thick lens.

Yes, we're talking the blackout light.

Ideally, I'd like to get an IR light that fits perfectly in the HMMWV hood.

My forklift has some lights that might have the mounting stud mounted more to the rear of the light bucket than the IR lights do. Here is a shot of the forklift. I can take a closer pic if the light and take some measurements next week. They use a rubber ring which the bulb is placed into and then the ring is fitted over the light bucket.

got rust?

That's my favorite Military vehicle. Three modes of steering, 2x4 and 4x4 locked, high and low transfer case, tilting body and six foot surf rating. Now back to lighting. I actually went up to the farm last night, but I forgot to bring along the camera. I did take some measurements of the lights though. The diameter of the largest area, where the rubber grommet is measures 6 3/4" in diameter. From the front of the lense to the rear of the bulb housing, which is flat, measures 4". The mounting stud is 5/8" in size and the measurement from the center of the mounting stud to the rear of the housing is 5/8" and there is a grommet that the wire exits through which protrudes another 1/2" out the back of the housing.

Here are some close up fotos of the light assys that I spoke of previously. I think the IR light bulbs should fit into them and I think the mounting stud being mounted close to the rear of the housing will allow them to be mounted in place of the blackout light on a Humvee. There are a couple of different ways that the wiring enters the housing.
