Ctis question

Post by spitfire1745 » Sat Jan 06, 2018 7:42 pm

I would like to add ctis on my m998. Obviously I don't know what kind of hubs I have. So for not knowing would a ctis spindle and cover still fit? Thank you

Most m998 are 10.3k hubs. Half shafts give it away as to which you have. The shaft spline is either 1.163 for 10.3k and 1.363 for 12.1k. Also the differential side if the Half shaft is round for 10.3k and scalloped for 12.1k and much heavier.. And the steering arms are bent towards rim for 10.3k and almost straight for 12.1k arms. If you have 10.3 and convert to 12.1, then you require new steering arms, half shafts and upper hub spur gears.
Regarding ctis, both will accept the setup. But you require:
Ctis spindles, same for 10.3 and 12.1.
Ctis steering arms, different for 10.3 and 12.1
Ctis guards on both sides of hubs
Lines, etc.

Post pictures if half shafts and back if hubs.

Ah ok so from what I have is a 10k. So now I know because my arm cover is bent and the half shaft is round. Sweet now I know what I have. Plus now I know that the spindles are all the same.

Later spindles use a different spacer.

When I did my research. From what I read yes they do us different spacers but and different seals. But it's a no brainer to get new seals and gaskets. But this ctis project isn't easy to complete with all these hard to find parts.

I should add that the ctis steering arm have a hole in the back and a seal inside to allow air to be piped to and thru the spindle. If you don't have this npt hole, then you need new steering arms that do.

Having owned a couple of H1s with CTIS over the years, I can tell you that the real need for it is because you have it. I was meticulous with maintenance, replacing O rings and disconnect valves, etc. When parked for an extended period, or during extreme cold, the tires would deflate. Unless the system was disconnected every night using the disconnects at the hubs, each morning would require an activation of the CTIS system to get the tires back up to pressure. The O rings leak in the cold and leak over extended down time. I never had tire pressure problems with my M-998 without CTIS.

Unless you have some daily use for CTIS, other than the cool factor, you'll find that you only need it because you have it.

Yea I'm definitely it for cool points. I would like to have the system installed and working but I won't have unhooked up to the valve. Just because of that reason. The major maintance on them.

The spindles are not all the same. CTIS spindles will work in 10k and 12k. But, not all spindles are CTIS ready.
All halfshafts are technically round. He was referring to the joints of the halfshafts being round or odd shaped.

“Junk” is spelled “CTIS”
Look for lots of work, time and money and down the road....flat tires after a period of 1 day.
I disconnect more ctis systems then I fix, it’s very time consuming if it not a spindle seal.

I've got two brand new Flat Tire Gauges, Oops I mean Air Pressure Gauges if someone wants to buy them. They are made by Auto Meter and came with a new CTIS Dash Panel that I had bought a few years ago. They are still in their original Packaging.
