6.2/6.5LNA vs. 6.5LTD Head Identification??

Post by beltfed34 » Fri Nov 17, 2017 5:35 pm

Ok,
So, if I'm looking at a pile of stripped heads, how do I easily identify which is a 6.2L, 6.5LNA or a 6.5L Turbo head?????? The all look the same to me but I know the TD heads are somehow different for the angle? But how to identify easily??
TIA,

early 6.2 heads had long coarse threaded body injectors set at an angle.
6.5 injectors have less of an angle to allow for turbo or exhaust manifold clearance.

The 6.5 injector lines are physically shorter than the 6.2 lines.

Parts book has:
6.5 cylinder head 1997 up 12556822, 12530202 2815-01-435-1707
6.5 cylinder head 1996 12553853 2815-01-494-9210
6.5 cylinder head 10163726, 05743222, 0725308 2815-01-411-2137
6.2 cylinder head 1990 up 10163712 2815-01-313-4309
6.2 cylinder head to 1990 14071072 2815-01-265-7071

Check casting numbers.

Thanks Mark!
But, on the casting #s you listed, which is the 6.5LNA and which is the 6.5LTD?? casting #s, I can find the casting #s on the heads so that will make it easy to ID them if you can clarify that.

6.2, 6.5 Intake Manifold Mount Holes are 90 Degrees from Intake Surface. Used on 1992-2001 vehicles (Civilian pickups with side mounted turbo).
6.5 Turbo Intake Manifold Mount Holes are 60 Degrees from Intake Surface. Used on 1997-2002 vehicles with center mounted turbo (vans).

Recently cylinder heads 60 degree port were redesigned and have a new cast number (by injector port) 10137567.

So, just screw in a long intake manifold bolt. If it doesn't stick straight out, it is a TD head?

Can you add a Turbo intake, manifolds and turbo to a 6.2 without replacing the heads?

There is a civilian belt driven super charger that can be added to 6.2.

Can't you add an external oil feed and drain back into pan through the mechanical fuel pump hole?
