WTK: Conversion List for 6.2/6.5LNA to 6.5TD

Post by beltfed34 » Fri Nov 10, 2017 2:55 pm

All,
I get this question about 2-3x week from customers, "what does it take to convert a 6.2 or 6.5LNA to the Turbo configuration?" I realize you would need a turbo, intake and exhaust maifolds, and I think turbo heads, what else? I'm talking just the major engine components, not wiring harness swap, etc.
Thanks Austin

Yes, you will need the proper heads for a top mount turbo. The have different Precups in the heads and the holes for the intake manifold bolts are drilled so they are vertical when installed on the engine. To really do a proper conversion, the injector pump and injectors will need to be swapped with turbo items too. The turbo engines also used the serpentine water pumps that had "HO" cast into them. They would also need to install the oil pump drive shafts that you sell and then drill out the oil supply and drain into that boss that is at the rear of the engine valley, unless they are going to take oil from the oil galley plug at the right front of the block and drain back the oil into the oil pan with some sort of hose or tube. The 6.2 does not have the boss for the oil supply and drain and correspondingly does not have the two threaded holes to bolt the turbo too so it is not as easy to mickey mouse the turbo in place.

Money! Lol

What George said plus IP, IP lines, serpintine belt setup, engine crank sensor with crankshaft rotor installed for sensor.

Best to start with a 6.5 GEP engine.
