Driver and passenger space

Post by orishi » Mon Sep 18, 2017 7:35 am

Hello,

I'm looking to buy M988 in the future. I've seen some humvees from the outside, but never sat inside.
The question is, how much driver and passenger space there is?

I'm almost 6'7 (200cm) and quite big. I wear XXL-Xlong ACU/OCP uniform and XL IOTV plate carrier. Will I fit in the driver's seat? I'm mostly worried about the leg space. Also, how would someone like me fit on the other seats?

Next month we are going to ride one with my friends, so I'm just trying to get some information before that.

I think a Toyota Camry has more passenger and storage space.

I think you will have to cut out the cross beam that is just behind the driver's and right front seat to get enough legroom for yourself, unless you have a long body and short legs. The high back seat kit for the front seats will have all the parts you need to replace the existing seats. You will just need to modify the installation to move both seats rearwards. If you keep the B Pillar in place as is typical, you should not have any worries other than any other similar vehicle for side impact strength. AM General deleted the cross beam in the front seat areas in 1994, but they did make the rocker protection panels a standard item. I'm 5'9" and found that cutting the front 70% of the B Beams on both sides to make the vehicle way more comfortable on long drives.

I'm 6' 190lbs and use the standard seats. Long drives (3 hrs or so) get me in the neck - I have to swivel and stretch it out from time to time.

Army not typically concerned too much with comfort IMO,
