Daytime running lights - Ignition switched power source
I recently installed LED head lights in my M998. They include a daytime running light feature that I currently don't have hooked up but would like to use if possible.
My question is this: What ignition switched power source could I safely use to power the daytime running lights when the truck is switched on? They are 12/24V capable.

You can pick up power from the alternator exciter wire, the 583 wire to the fan delay module, the 54 wire to the IP, or the A pin in the engine connector. All of them are switched by the ignition switch. If your concerned about the lamps power consumption you could use the alternator exciter to pick up a small relay and then pick up main power from the alternator output lead.

Thanks Kurt, I will give one of the suggested wire locations a try. I did order a waterproof 24v to 12V step-down converter for about $13 on Amazon as an added safety precaution. I will wait for that to arrive and wire them in. I will let you know how they turn out. Additionally. I will also wire in a switch to turn them off when I don't wait them on for times when I'm being stealthy and using Black Out drive or NVG's.

You will still have to turn on the main light switch to get your brake and turn lights working so if this addition costs too much it might not be worth it, because you only need one more click of the lever you already had to move to have head lamps lit. If you have modified your light switch then disregard what I said.

If you purchased multivoltage lamps then why do you want to complicate things with a voltage converter? That makes no sense at all. If they'll run on 24 volts just run them that way. No need for something else to go wrong at the wrong time!

Re: Daytime running lights - Ignition switched power source
The specs werent really clear on the daytime running light voltages. They were very clear for the main LEDs so that's why Im electing to step it down. Otherwise I would wire it straight in with 24volts. Chinese products. Go figure.
(The daytime running lights are a separate portion on the lights.)
