3 Point seatbelt lengths?

Post by Kurt Lesser » Fri Sep 01, 2017 2:29 pm

In my 996 ambulance I installed the 3 point seatbelts at least 10 years ago but never paid much attention to their length because the seatbelts fits my wife and I fine. I had a friend with me the other day and the belt I installed on the passengers side was too short for him. The manual says the drivers belt is a 2540-01-315-3358 and the passengers and rear belts are 2540-01-315-3143. Does anyone happen to know what the difference in length is between these 2 seatbelts? I'm trying to figure out which one is the longer of the 2 belts to replace the one on the passengers side.

Thanks in advance.

Is the webbing on your belts Green, Kurt? Also, did you move the mounting point for the buckle end of the seat belt up higher and more forward as you are supposed too?

The belts in the ambulance are green and the retractors are mounted immediately above the B pillar. I did have to make my own upper mounts because I couldn't find any for the ambulance bodies at the time. My -20P shows that the drivers and commanders belts have 2 different part numbers and I'm thinking I may have installed 2 of the shorter belts. My drivers belt fits but is near the end of it's travel and it's the same with the commanders (passengers) belt. These belts all came out of a batch I picked up at the armory so I have no idea what kits they originally came out of or whether they're the long or short belts. If they are indeed the shorter ones I'll be looking for a pair of the longer ones very soon!

I just went out and measured the length of the belts. From the end that's fixed to the body (not including the metal piece) through the shoulder swivel to the tip of the black plastic retractor housing these belts are 99" long. This is just the green nylon section. The other thing I looked at was turning over the bracket mounted in the B pillar to move the retracor up but there's no access to the rear mounting bolts without removing the ambulance body

I will measure mine when I get home in about an hour or so. I have the later upgrade belts where I repositioned the mount hole for the buckle end to up higher on the same level as where the parking brake is bolted on the trans tunnel. This location is higher up and more forward than the original position for the buckle mount hole on the early Humvees. That alone and that the buckle is almost half again as long would make a difference. I'll take a photo of where it is mounted. You need to talk to Dave Wang, because he bought up all of my Four Man 3 point upgrade set belt kits.

My seat belt webbing length is 123" so it is a good amount longer than what you have. Here is a photo of the revised buckle and placement for it's mounting point.

Photobucket decided after 11 years of free services to start charging $400/year for their service so I closed the account and will have to find another hosting service.

There are long and short buckle sides. If i knew where my long ones were, i would send them. But they are only a few inches longer.

Extending the latch side will only create another problem. My latches are fine where they are and would interfere with getting into the back of the ambulance if they were any longer and since I know there are longer belts out there that's the solution I'd like to pursue. A couple of 123" belts like George has would be the perfect solution for me. Identifying them is the issue. I know their out there but what am I looking for? Researching NSNs hasn't been the solution as there are half a dozen different belts floating around and from what I see even FEDLOG doesn't give you that information. Maybe I should call AMG?

Hey Kurt, Have you thought of using the latest type of seat belt for the Humvee. These use a separate belt for the lap and shoulder and work with people wearing bulky flack vests?
