Re Manufactured HMMWV Turret Parts

Post by BEIS1 » Fri Sep 01, 2017 9:51 am

I am thinking about re manufacturing turret parts. The prices for these things are crazy. Like this turret support on ebay right now:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/One-NOS-Turret- ... SwgGdZpw6t.

$3700? I think my shop can make that and powder coat it with CARC paint for a fraction of that price. Now I get it won't be original, NOS, etc. But for people like me who don't necessarily have to have it original, I think it would be a good option.

Am I crazy here? Surely someone is already doing this?

That's my turret support that's on E Bay. It is a complex part. The main ring is a precision casting and the wings are made from stampings that are then rolled and welded to the main ring. The front legs are box tube, but are not on the same plain as the ring, they angle down. It is all aluminum and there might be a different way to make something that allowed fitment to the vehicle using the original components or you could just make a new design for a different turret bearing, B pillar connections and locking of the bearing. Probably would need a Humvee for test fitting a prototype design.

I predict a day very soon where $3700 for a NOS support is a bargain.

Buy dilvoys to make copies of. You dont want to end up with something that looks like PlanB made it...

If you’re going to try and make them you may as well make the H turret support.

That part also provides roll over protection, keep that in mind when you make it.

Here are some pictures of the M1114 turret that libbster29 made. Excellent work in my opinion.
