rivnuts for gas and water cans in rear

Post by ohiohmmwv » Sat Jul 22, 2017 4:44 pm

I looked up the rivnuts for the rear water and gas trays in the rear. As per the TM rivnut part number als-1024-225 has a grip range of .130 to .225
Is the rear floor actually that thick? I measured a piece of fender I cut out(just installed m1151 style ac vents) and it measured .083 in thickness. I tested a rivnut in the scrap piece and it squashed all unevenly and threads are crooked. Not a good match. Just thought I'd check with everyone here before I put the wrong rivnut through the rear floor and have to drill it out.

The can holders are mounted with 1/4-20 rivnuts petal or tulip style. They have slots. The slots even out the grip for softer materials. Example: the rivnuts on the clearance & taillight buckets. The manuals need some updating.

There are no rivnuts used for the taillight buckets. Those are rivets that branch out.

You are correct. The petal design is similar to the tail light bucket rivets.
