Body cutout for turbo

Post by ohiohmmwv » Wed Apr 12, 2017 4:34 pm

I read I'll have to cut part of the dog house opening to fit the 6.5 turbo in. Is that true for even 92 models? Any pics with measurements on the forum documenting this? I'd hate to get it wrong!

"Hmmwv A2 project" lists it on the Steelsoldier site(TedG's build).
I did see a comment about a 3" factory lift allowing clearance for the turbo. Do the new body bushings give you the clearance you need without cutting?

You can just install the turbo doghouse and see where the new edge would be. That is if the motor isnt in the way.

Have also seen crossovers with a cutout section for clearance at the top of the motor opening. I think you still would have to cut the sides to clear the exhaust.

I have my doghouse out right now. I can text a pic of the turbo hole if you want. Just PM number.

I have to do this shortly to my M966, so posting up any pics or info will certainly help out the peanut gallery.

Thanks!

Here are some factory pictures of the tub for turbo. Both sides are trimmed for the exhaust system.

Enjoy.

I haven't measured yet but I wonder if there's enough material to cut out, push back and rivet in to keep the factory lip.
Thanks for the pics Ted.
