Augi's Toughbook computer setup looks great in his truck but recently there have been a number of General Dynamics GD8200's coming on the market and they're absolutely great for this purpose. Their fast i7 processors with 8G of memory and current OS's but the best thing about them is the ease of throwing a larger HDD into them and the fact that the screens are dayulight readable. I think that GD bought the old GoBook line of computers and improved them. They also come with the Gamber-Johnson vehicle mounts.

I'd second the GD laptop. I was ahead of the curve on them and picked one up a couple months ago. :D

I recommend Doug who sells under "estreammicro" on eBay. He has ones with the docks and also has the hard to find keys for them, necessary if you're putting one in a soft top. If you message him, he can also do upgrades for the SSD and RAM for additional cost. No financial interest with him, just a satisfied customer.

These laptops are nice in that they've got a backlit keyboard, touchscreen, and built in GPS. The Gamber Johnson dock's power supply is also 24v compatible. They're also IP65 rated and rated to survive a 4' drop, which I believe is higher than the Toughbook. Only downside is the 4:3 screen, but that's pretty standard for rugged laptops, and it weighs quite a bit!

I used a Gamber Johnson TS3 mount to mount the dock to the radio tray. Another member I know here, jake-cutter, used a Gamber Johnson Mongoose mount and that also works well.

Here's mine installed in my truck (other stuff in the middle of install). Posted about it on SS not too long ago:

I'm actually going to be tying the audio on mine into my VIC-3 system I'm installing, courtesy of an adapter box from Augi, and using that for all my music. :D No need to worry about installing a head unit or speakers.

Looks good!

I'm hoping to get in on the next batch Augi does for the VIC-3 boxes.... I stumbled upon that thread too late.

I've asked this on Steel Soldiers, but maybe someone here has some info. for me.

I'm looking for vehicle navigation software for my laptop. You know, the same type that's in our cellphones and car radios. Those let you choose your route, and talk to you when you need to make a turn.

I've seen tracking programs, which show your position on a map, but those don't allow you to enter an address and then navigate to your destination, with voice prompts.

Any info. on current software that works with laptops? What I have found so far is phased out software that is no longer supported.

Someone asked for the pinout of the DRS keyboard for the FBCBII. Here it is:

Amph -> USB
Pin 1-> Pin 4: USB Ground
Pin 2 -> N/C
Pin 3 -> N/C
Pin 4 -> Pin 2: Data -
Pin 5 -> Pin 3: Data +
Pin 6 -> Pin 1: VCC

If you want to keep the connector on the keyboard cable rather than cut it off, the mate is a 38999/20WA35SA for the box mount receptacle.

This is my combo. A military docking station, mounted on some Gamber parts.

The arm can be turned and extended. The docking station can also be adjusted in its inclination. I use it for navigation and music (via bluetooth on speakers)
