Alternator is not charging...

Post by STUDENT-DRIVER » Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:50 pm

Hey guys my friend's HMMWV is not charging. If you crank it on its glowing but the needle of the volt gauge is pulsing between the red and the yellow section on the battery side. Is there a typical problem on the early hmmw's? We already changed the alternator but with no sucsess.

The volt guage moves back and forth while the plugs cycle. Wait a few minutes or after driving and see where the needle sets.

Maybe the second alternator is bad too.

Measure the output voltage to see if it is around 28.5vdc, if not, then either something is drawing it down or your alternator is bad. On the 60amp, there is a capscrew you can "sometimes" adjust the voltage output. Make sure you have a grounding harness.

Thank you guys.
We found the problem.
We forgot to connect the regulator plug on the new alternator.
Now it's charging.
Thanks for your help
