I had the same problem with the fuel gauge - brand new from Faria Corp.

I called Faria, and they sent a brand new one to me - at zero cost. The new new gauge worked fine.

Faria at the time seemed to be aware that there was a bunch of bad gauges that went to market and offered this free no-cost swap.
