12 bolt rims

Post by George Stojkos » Thu Mar 27, 2008 2:24 am

Is there any way to tell the differance between the old style 12 bolt rims and the new style besides the colour of the 0 ring ?

The extra hole on the outer part, and of course, the part #'s stamped into both parts.

Well, the rims will be weight rated for the lowest load carrying piece.. A mix of a 3,800# and 3,450# will only be rated for 3,450#

George, the back half of a 3850 rim has to have the red "O" ring. This is the rim with the extra line up hole between two of the 12 studs. The back half of the older 12 bolt wheel has to have the thicker black "O" ring. Either front half can be used on either back half but of course it would be better to not mix them. Also, the shape of the O ring groove is markedly different between the two rim styles as the red O Ring is of a much smaller cross section compared to the old style black one.
