New Addition and M1114 Question!

Post by beltfed34 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 5:57 pm

New strap-on I just got, pretty cool huh?

Also, can I make a faux-M1114 out of these parts and an old hood cut to fit? What else do I need to make my H1 have the snout?

Hi Austin,

You will also need frame extensions, splash sheild extensions for both sides, to name a few.

email me for pictures on my M1114 build project if you want.

Frame extensions? The winch frame extensions wont work?

Thanks all for the helpful pics and info, looks like a fairly rough but doable job.

new addition and m1114 question

Post by dilvoy » Thu Mar 13, 2008 10:46 am

That tow bar looks like the Cat's Pajamas Austin! Is it setup to be able to be used by one person? The thing I'm wondering about is in the extension of the legs. Can this Tow Bar be attached to the vehicle that needs towing and then if the Tow Vehicle is close enough, can the lunette portion of the tow bar be pulled forward to the pintal hitch and then after coupling and having the Tow Vehicle pull forward to extend the legs, can the leg locking pins be put into place if the legs are at full extention? I'm trying to see if this Tow Bar is easier to use than the old types that need to have one man holding the lunnette end of tow bar up while another backs the Tow Vehicle towards it.

Hi Ted, I just put on the winch extensions on my Humvee and mine have some extra reinforcements on the outer side of each bracket as compared to yours. It shoulden't keep them from being used though. After bolting them on, I realized that I forgot to place the outer pieces that have the tie down loop, so I'll be doing it all over again. Can a winch be used with the extended nose? It will fit under there, but I don't see how the freespooling lever can be operated or the winch controller can be attached, as they are on the top side of the winch. I guess one could reach fron underneath to do these tasks. Any ideas?

Hi George,

I have not installed a winch yet...maybe this summer. I did mount a new brush guard though.

I would like to have one of those tow bars so I can handle it. The mediums tow bars are very usable but heavy...

Regards,

Ted

new addition and m1114 question

Post by dilvoy » Thu Mar 13, 2008 4:09 pm

Thanks Emmado, that's what I was hoping.
Ted, I have a couple of those mediums and one small tow bar and they do have a long reach in the fully extended position, so they still might be good to keep around. By the way, the Small Military Tow Bar is almost exactly half the weight of the Medium unit. I can move it around as a complete assy with the adaptors on too, which is impossible for me to do with the Medium Tow Bar.

George,
That tow bar is aluminum with steel extending arms, the whole shebang weighs about 60lbs, I mounted it by myself, its LIGHT! Someone had demilled it into 8 pcs-it was never used and they bandsaw cut it!!!!, I had a professional welder re-weld it, if it breaks, it wont be where he welded it! More info about it on the IBIS-TEK website.

Ted, thanks for all the info, looks like a new project in the future!
