This may be a stupid question but are there any supplemental armor m998s still in active front line service? If so any pictures? Thanks

Your question is about the M998 and that is an early Two Man Soft Top Humvee. Never had an armor upgrade for it, but plenty had armor put on them by troops during the Iraq War as the Heavy Armored Humvees like the M1151 didn't exist yet. Consisted largely of flat plate steel placed around the passenger area and even around the bed area to make them much like the 6x6 Gun Trucks used in Vietnam.

Lots of variations on this theme were field modifications.

O'Gara-Hess & Eisenhardt manufactured HArD Armor kits in early 2000's for the M998 2 and 4 door, install manual is 6431460-01M1. Some pics at link below.

Those photos of that armor upgrade kit look to be in Western Asia or Northern Africa, but I have never seen any photos of that in actual field use. Was that kit sold to foreign Governments?

The O'Gara- Hess & Eisenhardt HArD Kits were issued in response to IEDs in Iraq from 2003+ about 2000+ or so. Some may have been sold to foreign Govt's too but priority would have been U.S forces in Kuwait and Iraq. O'Gara- Hess & Eisenhardt were also manufacturing 18,000 or so M1114 kits in 1996 or so I believe + 102,698 armor kits,no idea what model trucks the kit would have been for, but the HArD Kits primarily would have gone on M998's. ASK kits were also an early HMMWV add on.
"Also, vehicles fitted with the Add-on-Armor (again, I think this is the ASK, but I'm not sure) were designated in the supply system with a P1 suffix. For instance, an M998A1 fitted with the AoA kit was designated M998A1P1"
There were a lot of photos of HMMWV's with HArD Kits in Iraq/Kuwait on the net but if they have disappeared they are probably in Alex Student Drivers basement, with a bunch of other hard to find things.

DoD awarded two sole-source contracts and placed two orders on a
GSA Federal supply schedule contract, valued at $33 million, to OHEAC for
HArD kits. Military personnel installed HArD kits on unarmored HMMWVs
already located in theater. HArD kits consisted of left, right, and rear armor
panels, as well as transparent armor for the windshield and side windows. HArD
kits provide protection from small-arms fire and shrapnel, overhead protection,
and floor protection from exploding grenades or airburst ammunition.
In December 2003, MCSC awarded a sole-source contract, valued at $3.6 million,

Here's a a link with a shot of a maybe SF HMMWV with a HArD Kit in Iraq. Some M998's with HArD Kit's were being demilled/scrapped a couple of years ago in Arifjan Kuwait. I have some sad pics of one from Arifjan with the armor stripped off somewhere. Any others left must be pretty tired by now. http://www.hmmwvinscale.com/apps/photos ... =108858510
The Polish army also used M998 trucks fitted with ASK and HArD Kit's. I believe they are known as HMMWV Trynka .This term may include later model armoured Hmmwvs too. Here's a link to a site with a bunch of pics on a scale modeling site http://modelwork.pl/viewtopic.php?p=332010
Hard to say if the Polish M998's are still in service. Some of these modellers really seem to know their stuff! Some of the custom HMMWV scale model parts seem to cost more than the real parts.

At a guess maybe most of the trucks fitted with the early stop gap kits never came back Stateside as they were quickly obsolete and were passed over to Polish forces etc or demilled in the MIddle East.
There are a few shots of the ASK Armor retro fit assembly line at the Red River Army Depot in 2004 in Texas here.

Here is a picture of what we used in 2004 in Iraq, actual up armor kit designed for standard issue M998

Image

Cant seem to find the rest of the pictures of modifications we used during the war. Of which none of this is used anymore, as mentioned above it was all left for iraq/isis to use.

though most of this armor probably has not made it back to Stateside this thread is probably most useful as reference in case you find a heap of armor in a scrapyard or swap meet and think you have hit paydirt with a stack of M1114 or later armor, this stuff is certainly not the same in dimensions or value.Checking the bolt positions is sometimes the easiest way to identify the plates.
