I've been using a CF19 for GPS mapping while off-roading for years. They work great.

I adapted a FBCB2 mount to hold it by adding a couple of tabs that I machined myself. The mount can be positioned so that either the driver or the passenger can see it.

Augi,

Great pic. I keep looking at putting a CF19 or Xplore tablet in mine and hooking up some USB cameras and using the GPS. I keep leaning towards the CF19 as it has a keyboard. How are you powering it?

Bought 3 CF30's and 1 CF-31 from a local county - looking at the CF-31 for my Hmmwv. The Mount in the pics looks like it made from 3/8 Aluminum plate ?

Its 1/4" or so, and has 4 shock mounts between plates.

You need a tablet to use that mount the way I have it. Maybe you could attache the mount to the radio tray if you were going to use a normal form factor laptop.

The green box attached to the top of my radio tray is a 600w pure sin wave inverter. I use it to power the laptop and charge USB things, etc.

For a keyboard I've got one of these:

It's got an amphenol connector on it, but its just a USB keyboard. I found the pinout somewhere and made a short mating cable to plug into the laptop.

"The green box attached to the top of my radio tray is a 600w pure sin wave inverter." Where did you get the inverter? Looking at vehicle docks as a possible mount.

I can't remember where I got it. They are a dime a dozen, take your pick. I think it was marketed for a boat. It was originally blue and I painted it green.

Augi,

Great idea and did you make the bracket or was it from something else? How is the keyboard connected? You said USB?

The project is still in process but we ended up buying a used dock on e-bay - it has all the connections, an angled base, and a arm that keeps the screen in position. Also came with a power supply that was made in the US. These docks are take outs from fire trucks and such.

I used a Gamber Johnson base for a CF-19 Toughbook.

aceecaus,

Nice looking setup. I have the same base but no plug for the rear. Did yours come with the rear plug or did you get it separately? If so would you be willing to tell me where you got the plug.

Thanx

The mount was a .mil overrun I got from fleabay. Unfortunately, it came in white, but after disassembly and paint, it looks better. There are 3 connectors on the back of the mount for power and accessories. The installation instructions that came with the mount showed the pin out for the J1 connector, so I toned it out on the docking port, and found power. I got a cable for the J1 plug that fit, but it was severed. I spliced it with another cable to the pinout from the instruction page and powered the dock from the batteries. UNFORTUNATELY, this didn't work. In theory it did, but the installation instructions didn't have any info regarding what the J1, J2 or J3 really plug to on the other side, so my attempt to power the docking station failed. I believe that all three connectors have to be hooked up as power runs through all three, which would in turn power the dock as it was designed to do. I unhooked the battery terminals but kept the .mil cable to the J1 hooked up for looks. I have a 24V inverter installed in the battery compartment, so I just used the OEM Toughbook charger and zip tied it to the .mil cable I had run earlier. Now, I just plug that in to the Toughbook and it charges it just fine.

Thanx for the reply. Same here on the dock. When I saw your post, I hoped you had figured it all out.
